Busy in Tech

Fourth grade has been busy in tech this month!  The girls have learned a variety of new iPad skills and apps.  During the first week of school, the girls learned how to use the app PicCollage then use this as the home and lock screen background image.  We have also learned about acceptable use (how to hold and travel with the iPad, rules of use, etc.).  Next, the girls learned about Google Drive and how to create and add to folders.   This year, students will be able to save work to Google Drive.  Information on accessing your daughter's Drive will be coming home in the future so that you can view the work from home!  In addition to Google Drive, the girls have also learned how to use Edmodo, a learning management system, to communicate with teachers and fellow students.  We have started exploring the Creation Station centers which include making with duct tape and blackout poetry!

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Dear Families,

We are off to a great start in Fourth Grade!  The girls came into school with enthusiasm and excitement, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them this year. After just a few weeks, we are really into the swing of things now.  The girls are eagerly learning in all of their subject areas, so be sure to ask them to tell you what they have enjoyed the most so far this year.

We are truly looking forward to learning, growing, and laughing with your daughters throughout the year. Check back often to hear more about what we are doing in our classrooms!

Love,
Mrs. Gandhi and Mrs. Emala

Art: Meaning

All the girls started the year with a material exploration and then connected their work and their ideas while working to their grade level theme.  Fourth grade's theme is MEANING. You can see the long list of connections they made and why it is such a relevant theme for this grade level! Our future units will explore a range of materials, genres, artists, and concepts related to their theme.  The overarching reflection question for the year is: How can we understand art for another place and people?

Talking With the Fourth Graders

I met with the Fourth Graders this past Friday. They shared how happy they were to return to school, and I let them know, how happy we were to see them!
The Value for this Month is: Loyalty
We had a lively class discussion re: what Loyalty means to them and how they portray this Value.
They defined it as a class and I wrote it on our LS Values board( when you enter the LS, the Board is on the wall in the Lobby). As a class we discussed how to support and care for our classmates.
Each class was given a pail, which they named, the Cheer Pail. Each student is writing a statement
to support all of their classmates. Some of their ideas were: Believe in Yourself, You Can Do It,
You're A Good Friend... They are decorating these notes, and will place them in the pail. When anyone would like a "Cheer Note," they can choose one. Many of the girls said that these notes put a smile on their face. We plan to continue to talk about caring for ourselves and others throughout the year.
