Math and Money in the Second Grade

In math we are focusing on the value of money, counting coins, and calculating change. To deepen their understanding, we encourage the girls to challenge themselves at home by finding the value of a group of coins. Next, we move on to a review of telling time to the hour, half hour, and five minute increments. Here are some pictures of the girls working collaboratively while counting coins.
