Art: Value shows form
The girls made a map of their black and white expression photographs by labeling the lights and the darks. They used this map as a guide to color in their rubbing using light, medium and dark versions of their feeling color. By using these different values, the girls are showing the form of their faces in monochromatic color!
Reading: Language Arts groups

Second Grade Homeroom
The second grade girls have been busy this week. All three homerooms have completed the 100 book challenge. Way to go second grade girls! We will have our lunch celebration THIS Friday during lunch. The girls are allowed to bring a stuffed animal to eat with that day. We have also completed our study of the Iroquois tribe in social studies. The girls took notes on Iroquois customs and used that information to create a project on the iPads. We are now moving on to study the Sioux Indians. Happy Wednesday!

Here are some more glue "printmaking plates" showing the girls' expressions. The girls are ready to fill in their face with the color of their expression. They will use colored pencils, crayons and markers to make light, medium and dark versions of one color.

Reading: Greetings from Mrs.Hanley
I have enjoyed reading with your daughters the past few weeks and have been impressed with their growth in reading. What a difference a summer can make! Their enthusiasm for reading is obvious and it's been fun having them share this excitement with me. Look for a letter by the end of next week from the 2nd grade team describing the different reading groups and telling you who your daughter's teacher will be this year. Ms. Emala, Mrs. Orlando, Mrs. Roessler and I are excited about getting started. Please feel free to
email me at hanleyh@brynmawrschool.org if you have questions
about 2nd grade language arts. Happy reading!

P.E. - Let's Get Moving!!!
Our slogan for the year in P.E. is “Let’s Move!” In 2nd Grade we started with a
Cooperative Games unit. This teaches the
students how to work together to play different games and accomplish specific
goals. We also reviewed all of our
locomotor skills (walk, jog, run, hop, jump, gallop, skip, slide, and leap) and
used them in our many tagging and cooperative games we played. We will continue to stress and improve our
teamwork throughout the year.

Art: Prepping the printing plate
The girls are making a monochromatic self-portrait that expresses a feeling. First, they helped each other take pictures on the iPad in a chosen expression. Then, they traced the lines of their faces accentuating the feelings. Here they are putting glue over the lines to making their rubbing printmaking plate.

Art 2: Community
Second grade explores RELATIONSHIPS in art throughout the year. The students use color to express feelings, show space, and represent light and shadows in their work. They learn strategies to show relationships between people in their work. And, they build working relationships with their peers through collaboration and peer critiques.
French: Bienvenue à la classe de français!
Second
grade French is off to a great start! The girls have received their Joue Avec
Moi textbooks and are enjoying learning and talking about our new textbook
friends, David and Lili, as well as dogs (chiens), balls (ballons),
and clothes (vêtements). Below is a picture of them as they practice
writing in their textbooks.
